The best of e-worlds

According to Emmanuel Macron, opposing the deployment of the fifth generation of mobile telephony would lead us straight to the country of the Amish, followers of the return to the oil lamp. Behind this misplaced contempt, is there not a panic fear of opening up controversy around the type of society that 5G is drawing? A world made of algorithms, profiling and surveillance; a world where human relationships are conditioned by the omnipresence of communicating prostheses, where permanent advertising stimuli leave no respite, spying on our slightest actions and gestures, scrutinizing our Pavlovian reactions the better to imprison us in an ecstatic e-world… For many years, mobile telephony and more generally technological innovations have been considered an “ademocratic” subject. Only a handful of telecom engineers, computer scientists and investors are allowed to think about these innovations which, step by step, are bringing about a profound upheaval in our relationship to the world. The choice of society induced by 5G would require at least a pluralist, contradictory and transparent public debate. According to Stéphen Kerckhove, Managing Director of Agir pour l'Environnement, the time has come to resolutely refuse this flight into the abyss. By joining the associations mobilized, by calling on local elected officials, by organizing blockades of construction sites or by actively participating in a campaign to boycott 5G in order to obtain what is due to us: a sustainable planet!
