One morning that spring

Spring 1975. South Korean dictator Park Chung-hee needs to divert the attention of his public opinion, mobilized against a new constitution which strengthens his power. Eight men designated as agents of the north serve as scapegoats. All are innocent. None will survive. Nearly fifty years after the events, Park Kun-woong returns to the workings of this arbitrary condemnation and recalls what the sacrifice of these eight men was, by recounting in detail the itinerary of each of them through the gaze of their loved ones. He thus continues his long-term work aimed at exorcising the mistakes of Korean governments since independence in 1945. Translated from Korean by Lim Yeong-hee with the collaboration of Catherine Biros. Park Kun-woong's masterful new book, based on a tragic episode in contemporary South Korean history.
