They are mainly made by Baloch tribes who live as nomads, semi-nomads or settled in villages. The carpets are handmade on horizontal looms using the Persian knot technique. They typically have broad side borders, often made of goat hair, and a short wool pile in bright red, rust, blue, black and brown. A Belutch carpet is characterized by geometric symbols, stylized flowers and motifs such as "Gül" - a characteristic octagonal pattern.
