The city is mainly inhabited by Kurds, who have a long tradition of carpet weaving in this area. Bidjar carpets are known for being particularly robust and dirt-repellent. Since the carpets are knotted extremely tightly, the pile stands vertically upwards, so that dirt particles hardly have a chance of penetrating the pile. This guarantees the Bidjar a long lifespan.
