Schleich® figure / toy / box, plastic. Schleich® figurines are modeled with highly realistic detail, and carefully hand-painted for educational playtime. Passed down from generation to generation, they naturally contribute to a sustainable game. African elephant calves grow for 20 to 22 months in their mother's womb before coming into the world. Elephants have the longest gestation period of any mammal. Elephants are often referred to as “pachyderms” (thick-skinned herbivorous mammals). But their skin is so sensitive that they can even suffer from sunburn. This is why they often cover themselves with several layers of mud. They also use it as a pleasant "cooling wrap" to protect themselves from the scorching heat. Their large ears do not allow them to have better hearing than other animals, but they do help them withstand the African heat. When they fan themselves while shaking them, the blood they contain cools and helps to cool them. Recommended age: 3 - 8 years old
