Bat Mix Seedball Tin

Each tin contains 20 seed balls, enough to cover 1 square metre in a garden, or 3-5 medium sized pots. Each ball contains approximately 30 seeds per ball from a mix of borage, cornflower, corn marigold, evening primrose, wallflower and night-scented stock. Best scattered in Spring or Autumn. Many of our British bat species are in decline, faced with less roosting places and declining food availability. They have massive appetites, and a tiny Pipistrelle bat alone can eat over 3,000 mosquitoes a night! Bat Mix contains a special mix of wildflowers to attract a wide diversity of insects that bats feed on, including flowers that release their fragrance in the evening when bats are most active in our gardens. The mix also has a plants with a combination of long and short pollen tubes and a range of colours and shapes of flower to maximise the number of insects that they attract. We make the seed balls ourselves from our HQ in North London - from a mixture of UK native wildflower seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chilli powder. The outer clay protects the seeds from ants, birds and mice, and once sufficient water has permeated the clay, the seeds inside begin to germinate - helped along by the nutrients and minerals contained within the ball. The chilli powder continues to deter slugs and snails while the seed ball slowly degrades and the seeds sprout. All wildflowers are listed by the RHS as 'Plants for Pollinators'.
