The long, flexible leaves of the seaweed are carefully harvested by hand, cut into thin strips and then gently dried. Thanks to its natural beauty and environmental friendliness, seagrass is the perfect choice for stylish, sustainable accessories that combine aesthetics and responsibility. ➤Our production partners: Strictly selected according to fair trade criteria When selecting our local production partners in Indonesia, we attach importance to fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are exclusively adult and experienced artisans. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in handicrafts, as they can use the skills they learned at an early age to earn money and pass on traditional manufacturing methods to the younger generation. They often told us how happy they were to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living through this work. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies. ➤The manufacturing process: From raw material to finished carpet Our Loka carpets are made by experienced artisans on the Indonesian island of Java. The dried seagrass fibers, a purely natural product, are processed unprocessed into a robust and attractive carpet. Each fiber is woven by hand to create a harmonious pattern. To ensure that the carpet is perfectly round, a template is used. Without any further processing or artificial additives, the carpet remains 100% natural. In total, it takes about three hours to make a carpet.
