SPICYBRAND is a limited company founded by Ignacio together with Raquel, during the lockdown and with which we have invoiced +250k USD in the first year. The truth is that we have both always had an entrepreneurial spirit and due to our different profiles (Raquel studies design), what suited us best was setting up a fashion company, since it was relatively easy to launch and required little initial investment (we only had $500 that I had saved during the summer working as a bricklayer in construction).
The truth is that luck was not on our side, because when we launched our first pack of 25 sweatshirts, we were confined and we were not even able to recover the investment. This situation brought us back to square one and we finally found a niche market that we thought we could exploit: quality handbags at an affordable price.
With the money from the sweatshirts, we made an initial purchase of 11 units from a Chinese intermediary in Spain. Through our Instagram account (now with 8k followers), we contacted an influencer who agreed to collaborate with us and we managed to generate more than 350 reservations in 24 hours. From that moment on, the wind began to blow in our favour and we began to professionalise the business: we launched a website, created a logo, diversified products, invested in marketing, rented premises for stock management, multiplied margins with new suppliers from India, as well as expanding to other countries (Italy and Portugal).
The most interesting thing about the story is that we had a common goal, which was for Raquel to be able to continue studying at UNAV, since she had lost her scholarship the first year. Today, with the profits generated, we can not only pay for Raquel's university and accommodation, but we also have enough to continue growing and expanding the company.
