The Penannular or open ring brooch is perfect for ladies and for lords. *Curiosity* Penannular brooches date back to the early mediaval period and they were used as clothes fasteners, and were worn by both men and women, usually singly at the shoulder by men and on the breast by women, and with the pin pointing up. An Irish law code says that in the event of injury from a pin to another person, the wearer is not at fault if the pin did not project too far and the brooch was worn in these ways by the sexes. CARING FOR STERLING SILVER Sterling silver jewellery, if not worn for long periods of time, may develop a patina, which can be easily removed with a silver polishing cloth, available in all diy stores. If you want to “do it yourself”, here's a way: ***wet the silver piece in water, apply a small amount of fluoride toothpaste on the silver. Rub the toothpaste into the silver slowly, keeping it wet. Rub it until the toothpaste turns into a greysh dark colour. Let it sit for about 2 minutes. Wash away the toothpaste. The silver will show immediate improvement***
