Made from ethically-sourced veta vera grass in Northern Ghana, this beautiful bolga basket is finished with a binding of buttery soft goat’s leather around the handle. DETSI is made from robust veta vera grass which produces baskets of wonderful structural balance and durability. This robust grass is hand-rolled before being woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana. Grasses grow locally and are picked from the tip, leaving the root to continue to grow. Agricultural work is the basis of most weavers’ incomes, but prolific drought makes it increasingly difficult for families to make ends meet. Basket weaving brings these artisans the opportunity to earn a valuable second income that’s flexible and fair.
