PORINI: Slate Blue and Natural Stripe Woven Laundry Basket

Unique and expertly hand woven, the PORINI laundry basket sports a stylish white on slate blue stripe design reminiscent of the rustic Kenyan palette. Created by one of the most experienced members of the women’s weaving cooperatives in the rural Eastern Region of Kenya, this versatile laundry hamper is hand woven from the indigenous sisal plant. The stiff leaves of this fibrous shrub are subject to a detailed process of harvesting, rolling and dyeing - all by hand - before six days of skilful weaving begin. Each laundry basket takes forty balls of sisal to complete, whilst two expert leather workers (known locally as ‘fundi’) produce the laundry hamper’s leather trim and handles. Deep and strong enough for storing logs by the fireplace yet equally soft and supple enough for bathroom or nursery storage, your woven laundry basket can be put to use beautifully all over the home – not just the laundry room.
