Our Mission is to inspire a healthier world one carton at a time with lip-smacking, healthy and sustainable plant drinks, which nourish the planet and its people.
Our milks are high in protein, calcium, low in sugar and 100% vegan. Our hero ingredient, the Yellow Split Pea, is nitrogen-fixing, keeping our lakes and oceans cleaner.
This ensures our environmental impact is a fraction of our dairy counterparts, up to 85% less in fact. Our plant milks have a shelf-life of 12 months, are free from the top 14 allergens and just happen to be deliciously creamy - want some?
The idea of the business came about in the lockdown 2020 when Nikki's family member became intolerant to dairy products and as a family they decided to go plant-based.
Su's family was also making the journey from vegetarianism to veganism. The founders have 4 young children between them that consumed milk multiples times a day, and when Nikki & Su were scouring the supermarket shelves to find milk alternatives, they were unable to find something that was nutritional, sustainable and tasty...so they decided to make their own.
The questions that they kept coming back to, were;
Where's the Nutrition?
– Dairy alternative plant milks are typically 99% water with very little nutrients.
Why are Plant Milks not tasty?
– Plant milks are often watery, chalky and lack flavour.
What are we doing for the planet?
– Dairy, Almonds and Soy are not planet-friendly with either a high carbon footprint or water usage.
Coming from Indian heritage, it seemed natural to think of lentils and legumes to be the hero ingredient. After a lot of research into sustainable plants, the Yellow Split Pea topped the list, especially on discovering that field peas are naturally nitrogen-fixing.
The first pea milk recipes were whipped up in Nikki's kitchen and tested on family and friends, several months later, an ward-winning food technologist was enlisted and the first official batch of milks were produced in the UK's leading plant milk manufacturer. And so The Good Pea Co. was born.
