The Nutty Farmer

We started The Nutty Farmer in October 2021!  With 100% fair trade cashew nuts from our farmer cooperatives in Burkina Faso, we make delicious products with a beautiful story.  Did you know that part of our proceeds goes back to the farmer cooperatives through our Nutty Farmer projects?

How do we make the distinction?
🌎We have a social purpose!  We consciously choose to work under the Fairtrade label because we want to highlight the problems in the cashew industry!  The problems are similar to those in the cocoa industry: Child labor, unsafe working conditions for women in the cashew factories, extreme poverty as a result of which children often cannot go to school, ...  
Together with the Belgian & African Fairtrade Federation, we try to support farmers in Burkina Faso by purchasing directly from them under the fair trade standards (guarantee of a minimum wage and on top of that a fair trade premium).  But we go even further than Fairtrade!  We recently started a project where we will build a solar-powered water tower in the farming community in Burkina Faso.  This way we give back part of our profits to the local community in Burkina!

🔥We choose adventurous flavors without greasy hands!  Think of pomegranate with cumin, pepper and thyme or dark chocolate with orange and chili!  In addition, the nuts are roasted in the oven and not fried, so you won't have greasy hands!

🖐️Local anchoring: We work together with farmers from Africa, but the production itself takes place in our nut workshop in Zwevegem.

🌿Upcycling Food: We do not throw away the pieces of cashew nut that crumble during peeling!  We roast and season it and make a delicious cashew crunch topping.  Ideal to use as a topping on your dishes!
