Indra Medium Embossed Leather Journal

Our gorgeous handmade, Fair Trade embossed leather journals are truly items of desire and make for a great diary, travel journal, inspiration book or notebook. The ornate brass clasp makes them extra special. Each journal contains approx. 125 pages of handmade, acid-free, unlined khadda paper; khadda is recycled cotton that has been left over from the massive garment industry in India. The embossing has been done with small individual handmade tools, making each journal unique. The pattern might not be the same as on the image but will be just as lovely and carefully made. Dimensions: 16 x 11 cm All of our leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for travelling. The paper used in these journals is handmade using recycled cotton leftover from the massive garment industry in India. It is acid-free because we only use unbleached cotton and it produces a beautiful paper, easy to write, draw or paint on. However, we don't recommend using a fountain pen with this type of handmade paper. The leather used is a by-product of the meat industry in India and is tanned using only natural dyes. All the products in this range are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. We are fortunate enough to visit them every year, having worked with them for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We are incredibly proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that may have otherwise been difficult to find, and consider the producers and their families true friends. The paper in all our journals is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages.
