Mini Sari Fabric Journal

Our beautiful Fair Trade sari covered journals will add a burst of colour to your writing. Perfect for use as a diary, travel journal, sketchbook or just for your to-do lists. They also make an ideal gift for the budding writer in your life. Each one contains 125 pages of unlined, handmade khadda paper. Expertly crafted using both contemporary and traditional methods, each one is bound by hand and ready to withstand any knocks and bumps on their journeys with you. The sari material comes from Varanasi, one of the most religious cities in the world and a centre of excellence for sari making. The pages are created from khadda paper (also known as kaddi or khaddi). This sustainable material is crafted by hand from recycled cotton, salvaged from the huge waste of the Indian garment industry. Only unbleached cotton is used, ensuring the paper is acid-free. Lightly textured and luxuriously thick, it feels beautiful to write, draw, or paint on. While it’s perfect for ball-point pens, gel pens, or watercolours, we wouldn’t recommend it for use with fountain pens. Due to the handmade nature of our products each one is unique, but loveliness comes as standard. Dimensions: 8.5 x 10 cm By buying this product you will be supporting the work of skilled artisans and craftspeople in Rajasthan, India. All the products in this range are made by a small family business in Rajasthan who we have worked with for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We visit every year and we now know the producers and their families well and consider them true friends. We are proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that would have otherwise been difficult to find. The paper is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages. The beautiful sari material is handmade using man-made fibres because we are uncomfortable with the traditional methods used to make silk. We respect our producers and it is very important to us that we treat them fairly. We pay all our producers 50% upfront and send money to them whenever they need it and we never return anything, even if it’s damaged.
