The term ‘gua sha’ (or kerokan) refers to a traditional chinese medicine practise in which a blunt tool is used to firmly massage the skin in order to stimulate blood circulation. The tool traditionally used for gua sha is most commonly a palm-sized, heart shaped flat stone of the same name, typically made of New Jade or Rose Quartz. It is used to break up tension often caused by water retention, muscle tightness, or other congestion, and also helps to boost blood circulation.
