Wim Crouwel. Typographic architectures

A major figure in contemporary European graphic design, Wim Crouwel (1928-2019) marked the history of the discipline through his extensive practice of design, applied both to the cultural field and to the commercial field. During his career, he has carried out both typographic design work, visual identities, signage, posters, publishing work, and even the scenography of exhibitions. This book is the first publication in French on the work of Wim Crouwel, whose influence is confirmed today with the younger generations. From the 1950s onwards, and during the following decades, this Dutchman, whose influence extended far beyond the borders of the Netherlands, succeeded in developing an approach to graphic design combining the modernist heritage with the fantasy of pop. Through two texts written by Emmanuel Berard and Catherine de Smet, and an unpublished text by Wim Crouwel, this book testifies to the diversity of his work and looks back on his work on visual identities, publishing, or the creation of posters. .
