A heavenly topping for breakfast, with salads, soups, casseroles, as a refinement in sauces, with cakes, in yoghurt, on/in smoothies and of course simply as a snack. ...and everything else your creative mind can think of :-* Worth knowing about our Puffed Physalis: Physalis is the common name for the Cape gooseberry (P. peruviana). It is also called Andean berry, which indicates its origin. The Andean berry is also grown in South Africa, but actually comes from the Peruvian Andes. In English, the physalis is called "Cape Gooseberry" and describes the delicate and wonderful cape, i.e. the leaf covering of the actual berry (please also have a look at the descriptive pictures). After flowering, the leaves grow together, forming a kind of 'protective house' for the berries developing underneath...isn't nature indescribably magical?
