Plaque prevents blood from flowing normally to crucial organs like the brain and heart. It is the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes, and one of the leading causes of death in most industrialized countries. The good alternative may be policosanol. Policosanol may be effective against symptoms of intermittent claudication, a debilitating consequence of atherosclerosis.
