To create this accessory, the artisans proceed with a slip wash (liquefied clay), which contains a high percentage of iron, on the body of the accessory before glazing.   The iron interacts with the glaze during cooking and colors it in one of the various shades of green or blue. 

Originally made in China, Celadon was exported to India, Persia and Egypt during the Tang dynasty (618-907), most of Asia during the Song (960-1279) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties, and in Europe in the 14th century. 

The products were popular for their beauty; even the Chinese appreciate them because they resemble jade.
