Fennel Seeds

Composition: Fennel seeds. Fennel seed is derived from the fennel plant, Foeniculum vulgare (or Foeniculum officinale), of the Apiaceae family (formerly Umbelliferae family). It is a perennial plant native to the Mediterranean basin which is grown mainly in hot regions. It blooms in August and September giving small yellow flowers grouped in umbels 10 cm in diameter, and following which appear the seeds of fennel. All parts of fennel are eaten: roots, leaves and seeds here offered whole or in powder. The taste is slightly sweet aniseed with a note of coriander leaf and celery at the same time.
