Couvent Rouge was founded in Deir El Ahmar in 2010 to produce wine as a viable alternative to illegal cultivation and to complement the "Coteaux d'Heliopolis" grape cooperative founded in 1999.
It pursues organic viticulture in its vineyards in Deir El Ahmar, a village 17 km north of Baalbek, the City of the Sun, home to the famous Roman Temple of Bakhhus and the largest standing Roman temple in the world.
The altitude of the vineyards varies between 950 and 1650 meters above sea level and the soils are red, clayey or gravelly at higher altitudes and the region benefits from over 300 days of sunshine per year.
The Lebanese winery aims to transform Deir El Ahmar into a wine-producing village and to keep the village families in their hometown by purchasing their harvest at a fair price.
Couvent Rouge's mission is to put Lebanon on the map of wine producing countries and revive what this side of the world produced best during the Roman Empire.
