Quinoa Multivarieties from Ecuador - 500 g

Quinoa has existed in the Andes since 5000 A.C. It was used by people in the Andes long before the Inca Empire. Quinoa is grown on the Andean plateaus, above 2500 m altitude in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Quinoa SolAlter is grown by families from communities in the central Andes of Ecuador (province of Chimborazo). They seek to add value to their products and to escape the conventional commercial network which pushes prices down. In this region, the cultivation of quinoa has remained traditional. It is grown in small plots (often less than one hectare) located on slopes. These characteristics mean that the cultivation is done with ancestral methods: the work of the land is done with a pickaxe, shovel or at best with oxen. The harvest is done by hand and a first preparation of the seeds is made in the wind.
