In the north of Oahu, just past the Pupukea-Paumalu Forest Reserve is miles of fine sandy beach. At Sunset Beach you can immediately see exactly where the Banzai Pipeline is located. The surf spot has only developed into a real attraction over the years. The waves here break comparatively late. So you can see everything right on the beach. In order for the waves to be able to break in such a unique way, the reef first had to develop over millions of years. However, due to the low salinity and strong currents, the reef has never fully expanded, making it safe to glide across the water without brushing the reef. If you are standing on this fantastically beautiful piece of earth, you must not forget that these are the most dangerous waves in the world.
