Prehnite forms in the veins and depressions of volcanic rocks, often basaltic, but also occurs in granites. In the past it has been mistaken for jade, serpentine, chrysoprase and other gemstones. The subdued, apple-green colour of prehnite blends beautifully with gold, but it really shines in combination with silver. Prehnite is considered a "dream stone". It is believed to enhance lucid dreaming and promote communication with other planes of existence. It is also considered the "stone of prophecy" long used by the indigenous peoples of South Africa.
