In 2019, when Corona was just known to be a beer and working from home was considered a perk, hand sanitizers were associated with doctors, hospitals, and sterile environments. Whenever hand sanitizer was needed it was carried out in an uninspiring bottle, had a strong chemical smell, and was quickly hidden away after being used. Despite its necessity and great use, hand sanitizers were nothing people seemed to enjoy using or kept visible.
At the same time, Petter Jonason was on paternity leave. Noticing the market gap for a premium hand sanitizer he set out on a quest to create a hand sanitizer that was not only efficient, but also beautifully packaged, and elegantly sentenced.
”I’d seen all these branded hand soaps popping up during the recent years, becoming part of the interior and a centrepiece in the bathrooms, so I wanted to see if we could reposition hand sanitizers in the same direction – moving it out from the cupboards on to the counters” - Petter Jonason
In between changing diapers and rocking a newborn baby through sleepless nights, Atlas was created. Named as a tribute to Petter’s home blocks, the Atlas area in Stockholm. A water hole, just off the busy streets of Sankt Eriksplan, known for its delectable architecture built in the era of “Swedish Grace”, and timeless Stockholm look. An area to retreat, disconnect, and flourish in. And to simply feel at home - just as Atlas on your kitchen or bathroom counter.
During the past year, Atlas Sanitizer has received great press and has been featured in SvD Magasinet, Plaza Interior, Sköna Hem, Daisy Beauty, and Scandinavian Mind amongst others..
