Mangosteens contain xanthones: chemical compounds that have antioxidant properties, helping to protect against free radicals. Xanthones are among the most powerful antioxidants, stronger than vitamins C and E. Up to 200 different xanthones have been discovered in nature, but no plant has more than 8 xanthones among its active ingredients except magostan. Of the 200 known xanthones, no fewer than 50 are present in the mangosteen, each with its own unique property. The perfect balance of vitamins and xanthones in mangosteens is unlike any other fruit. The polyphenols and flavonoids in mangosteens may support anti-inflammatory effects.
