Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis), incorrectly called red tea, is actually a very different plant from tea, although it is also a thorny shrub. The main difference is that rooibos does not contain theine (that is, caffeine). Unlike tea, rooibos can therefore be consumed in the evening before bedtime without causing the risk of insomnia.
