Halal lamb ham is a cured meat product obtained from the leg of the lamb, processed according to the principles of Islamic slaughter (ḥalāl, which means “permissible” in Arabic). This is a tasty and refined alternative to traditional pork ham, designed for those following a halal diet or simply looking for new flavors in the panorama of cured meats. The lamb leg is deboned, dry-salted (or with natural brine), spiced with aromatic herbs, and subjected to a curing process that can last from 2 to 6 months, depending on local tradition and the desired result. During this period, the meat develops intense aromas and a strong yet balanced flavor, with light gamey notes typical of lamb. From a nutritional point of view, halal lamb ham is rich in high biological value proteins, iron and B vitamins. It can be served thinly sliced as an appetizer, in gourmet sandwiches, or as an ingredient in more elaborate recipes.
