Virgin and Child Mittens

These printed bamboo mittens from the Museum collection, Ruban Rouge brand, are inspired by the work Virgin and Child with Saint Martin and Saint Agnes by El Greco. A 16th-century Mannerist artist, El Greco is known for his elongated figures, expressive use of color, and mystical light. This painting, produced between 1597 and 1599, depicts the Virgin holding the Child Jesus, surrounded by two saints, in a dramatic composition typical of his style.
