Big Ben is probably the symbol of London and anyone who has ever been to London will have seen Big Ben. 

Its classic gong beat is unmistakable.  Big Ben is the name of the largest bell in the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster in London. 

Also known as the Elizabeth Tower, the tower itself is one of London's most recognizable landmarks. 

The tower was built in the 19th century and Big Ben was inaugurated in 1859. 

The bell was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, then Commissioner of Works, and has since become a symbol of the city of London and its importance as a political center.
