Macintosh was a Scottish chemist and inventor who lived in the 19th century. 

He is best known for developing a process, later known as the "Mackintosh process," which enabled waterproof fabrics to be made. 

This development had a major impact on the clothing industry, leading to the emergence of raincoats and other waterproof clothing. 

Macintosh himself then founded the company Macintosh & Co.,which produced raincoats and other waterproof clothing.
