A pirate captain with a parrot on his shoulder.  Pirates and corsairs were active on the seven seas in the 16th and 17th centuries, raiding and plundering ships. 

They were active in many parts of the world, particularly the Caribbean Sea and Indian Ocean. 

Most pirates and corsairs were seafarers who turned to piracy for a living, but there were also professional pirates who specialized in plundering ships. 

Piracy was a major problem for seafaring in the 17th century, leading to wars between the powers of Europe seeking control of trade routes.
