Like a true banana, the Blackstonie offers a round and robust profile, fitting into the lineage of practical and durable models. Its semi-rigid leather allows for a structured design with a traditional character, while its rounded contours give it an image more rooted in urban life. An urban look serving a function requiring free movement, the Faméthic banana bag also offers the elegance and comfort of noble material. Leather We collaborate with the Alsatian tannery DEGERMANN, supplier to luxury houses, and work with their SUPORTLO® calfskin leather for all our models (excluding capsule collections). Its satin aniline finish provides a round and silky feel while revealing the authenticity of the flower. With an average thickness of 2mm, it is a dense and very strong leather that adapts remarkably well to the wear and tear of time. Its tanning process gives it a noble and distinctive patina that your regular maintenance will undoubtedly enhance. Initially, this leather was designed for boat upholstery. It is actually tanned twice: a first mineral tanning is carried out for reasons of safety and resistance (it is fireproof), then a second, vegetable tanning is carried out to obtain an original finish and patina. This plant-based finish offers a natural look for dyes made in the mass (the color does not run or fade). The leather is then fulled (this means it is greased) to make it more supple and waterproof. The SUPORTLO® is therefore a leather specially tanned to resist sun, wind, salt, water and sebum, while developing a natural patina. Recently acquired by Chanel, the Dégermann tannery has benefited from the Living Heritage Company label since 2012.---In our Marseille workshop, we have chosen to work exclusively with "full grain" leather for all of our designs. Unlike split leather taken from the dermis, full-grain leather is leather from the epidermis, the strongest part of the skin, reflecting the life of the animal. Thus, certain "defects" will be visible such as wrinkles, beauty marks, stretch marks, scars, scratches, punctures, etc. These defects are normal. Most of the time, these marks are merely cosmetic surface defects and do not affect the leather's resistance in any way. Since leather is itself a waste product of livestock farming, and out of ecological concern, we deliberately work with hides that have some of these marks. Similarly, in order to limit waste during cutting we keep certain natural defects when they are purely aesthetic. Manufacturing Each of our models is entirely handmade in our Marseille workshop by Valérie, craftswoman and creator of FAMETHIC. Possessing traditional know-how that has made the reputation of high-end French leather goods, FAMETHIC holds the artisan of art label. This means that all stages of design and manufacturing are carried out in the workshop located in the city centre of Marseille itself, without resorting to subcontracting. No machine replaces the work of the craftsman; all the steps from pattern design to sewing, including cutting, drilling, fitting metal accessories and assembly, are done by hand, in the same place. As a truly independent brand, we work without intermediaries to offer original designs at a fair and controlled price. We specialize in hand stitching: cross stitching, English stitching and in particular, the strongest type, saddle stitching. In order to include our pieces in a sustainable life cycle, the founder has developed a drilling technique specific to FAMETHIC, allowing for easy repair of seams - provided that the leather is regularly maintained. We work with quality full-grain leathers and use hand-sewing techniques to offer sturdy bags that truly stand the test of time, with seams that can be repaired if they wear out (unlike machine sewing). This does not give rise to any contractual guarantee from FAMETHIC, just be aware that well-maintained leather lasts three times longer and makes repairing seams easier.---Manufacturing time upon order: 1 week.
