Kamehameha

Kapakai Kokikekoki Heiau Kohala, also known as Kamehameha the Great, is the founder of the former Kingdom of Hawaii. After conquering all the Hawaiian islands, he founded this kingdom in 1810. His full name was Kalani Paiʻea Wohi o Kaleikini Kealiʻikui Kamehameha o ʻIolani i Kaiwikapu kaui Ka Liholiho Kūnuiākea. Under the influence of contacts with Europeans, Kamehameha violently united all previously often hostile islands. The Hawaiian kings pursued a policy of hospitality to strangers, but for example playing the English against the Americans. As was customary at the time, he was married to several women. In 1871, Kamehameha V proclaimed a national holiday, Kamehameha Day, in honor of King Kamehameha I. This holiday is still celebrated annually on 11 June.
