This candle is for honoring the holy Saint Anthony of Padua. He is the patron saint of the Franciscans, marriage, women and children. Saint Anthony is best known in Portugal. The Portuguese celebrate his holiday on June 13th. In Portugal, he is really seen as a patron saint, someone who brings happiness. The origin of Saint Anthony (St. Anthony) Saint Anthony was ordained a priest in 1220 in Forlì, Portugal. Many people have devoted themselves to the Catholic faith through him. He later taught theology, and around 1231 he was declared a saint by Pope Gregory IX. Saint Anthony is a patron saint. That is someone who is honored and considered a protector. Saint Anthony is the patron saint of lovers, marriage, bakers, poor, miners, Franciscans, marriage and lost property. His help was also called in with shipwreck and illness. A church was built around his grave in Padua in honor of Saint Anthony, the Basilica di Sant ’Antonio.
