Swedish craft licorice
Christian Haupt and his wife Camilla have been licorice and chocolate enthusiasts for many years, and in 2012 Christian had far-reaching plans to start making chocolate. But after a holiday in Iceland in 2013, he changed his mind and decided to invest in licorice.
"In Iceland, I was inspired by their way of combining licorice and chocolate and as soon as I got home from vacation, I started Haupt Licorice," says Christian.
Then followed a long period where Christian and his staff searched for ingredients and suppliers all over the world. And the goal was clear from the beginning - to create the world's best licorice. They wanted to create a sweet and salty licorice that stood out from the crowd as well as pralines that combined licorice and chocolate.
Machines for production were purchased, staff were hired and they found a suitable location in Kista, just north of Stockholm. Now the company was up and running!
