Leenhardt gives you an overview of the geology and relief of Mont Ventoux, the most famous mountain in Provence! Mont Ventoux is a peak culminating at 1,910 meters in Comtat Venaissin. It is the highest point of the Vaucluse mountains and the highest peak in the Vaucluse department. It is about 25 kilometers long and covers about 26,000 hectares. Eleven communes share the massif, which can also be seen on the map: Aurel, Beaumont-du-Ventoux, Bédoin, Brantes, Flassan, Malaucène, Monieux, Saint-Léger-du-Ventoux, Sault, Savoillan and Villes-sur-Auzon. Located less than 20 kilometers as the crow flies from Carpentras, Mont Ventoux is far enough away from the other peaks in the region to appear taller than it is, earning it the nickname "Giant of Provence." In good weather, at the summit you can enjoy an exceptional panorama of the entire Alps, the Massif Central and the Cévennes, the lower Rhône valley, the Camargue, etc. to Marseille!
