Bourbon Geranium vs. Rose Geranium: What’s the Difference? Rose geranium and Bourbon geranium share some similarities, however they differ and it is important not to substitute one for the other. Our Bourbon geranium essential oil comes from Madagascar where our producer, very involved in organic farming, produces an essential oil with a very refined fragrance. Bourbon geranium has a fresher, fruitier scent with floral undertones. Rose geranium has a softer, sweeter, and slightly pinkish scent. In terms of properties, both essential oils are often used for their beneficial effects on well-being, but rose geranium is generally preferred in skin care, while bourbon geranium, with its more vibrant scent, is often used to create a pleasant and balanced atmosphere. The scent of Bourbon geranium blends well with: bergamot, sandalwood, carrot, lemon, clove, juniper, jasmine, lavender, palmarosa, patchouli, rose, clary sage, and ylang-ylang.
