Organic Petitgrain Bigarade Essential Oil (10ml) Organic Petitgrain Bigarade Essential Oil: Aromatic Balance The scent of petitgrain bigarade essential oil can be unsettling for a citrus fruit: it's reminiscent of bitter orange zest, but more subtle and less sweet because it's the result of distilling the bitter orange leaf. The bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium), also called bitter orange, is a fruit tree of the Rutaceae family. It is a medium-sized tree (4 to 10 meters), with dense, evergreen foliage. Its shiny green leaves give off an aromatic scent when crushed. Petit Grain Bigarade takes its name from the term "petit grain" which originally referred to the small green fruits picked to produce this essential oil. Modern production now favors young branches and leaves to obtain a fine and balanced essential oil. The Bitter Orange Tree: A Tree of a Thousand Treasures The bitter orange tree, from which petitgrain essential oil is derived, is considered one of the most generous trees in the aromatic world. It is unique in its ability to produce three different essential oils, each extracted from a distinct part of the tree: The flowers yield neroli essential oil, with a sweet, floral fragrance. The zest of its fruits produces bitter orange essential oil, used in perfumery and aromatherapy. The leaves and branches provide Petit Grain Bigarade essential oil, with fresh and herbaceous notes. This triple role makes the tree a real treasure for perfumery and aromatherapy, but also in cooking. Petitgrain Bitter Orange Essential Oil: A Treasure from South America Petitgrain essential oil, with the finest fragrance and flavor, is found in Paraguay. Petit Grain Bigarade essential oil from Paraguay is the fruit of exceptional agricultural know-how and a rich natural environment. Located in the heart of South America, Paraguay enjoys a subtropical climate ideal for growing bitter orange trees. Introduced to South America by Spanish and Portuguese settlers during the 16th century, the bitter orange tree quickly acclimatized to the fertile lands of Paraguay. The combination of rich soils, moderate humidity and abundant sunshine has allowed this crop to thrive, producing a high-quality essential oil characterized by intense and balanced aromas. Its fragrance blends well with: cedarwood, geranium, jasmine, lavender, palmarosa, sandalwood, clary sage, and ylang-ylang.
