Panama Geisha Speciality Coffee beans | - Cafetiere / French press grind Iron and Fire / SKU502

With its generally elongated beans and distinctive floral and crisp, often chocolaty cup, the Geisha variety continues to distinguish itself as one of the world’s most unique coffees. This is an outstanding “natural” Geisha, produced from trees of the rare Ethiopia-derived botanical variety Geisha at Finca Santa Teresa, a boutique coffee farm and mill located high in the cloud forest of Panama. Their Geisha has won more than a dozen awards in the last Decade – its rich volcanic soils, high altitude, weather systems driven by the Pacific and Atlantic and a series of ridges and valleys drives outstanding coffee redolent of honeysuckle, lychee and strawberries. Finca San Teresa prides itself on producing the very finest coffee in a sustainable manner, environmentally and socially. The farm is UTZ certified meaning it complies with their sustainable standards and implements better farming practices, with respect for people and the planet. They have built their own school for the young children of families who work on the farm each harvest and we work with the charity Casa Esperanza. Iron and fire are delighted to offer you this rare and beautiful coffee. Complex and sweet, with distinct parma violet floral notes and a lychee and a stone fruit finish. The farm sits close to the border with Costa Rica and Panama’s highest peak, the Volcan Baru. Adjacent is La Amistad National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The coffee produced by Finca Santa Theresa is produced in microlots. Between November and February, coffee is picked from the 20 different lots on the farm. Soon after picking, the coffee is processed using one of three main processing methods – washed, honey or natural. Depending on the method, this can see the coffee drying on raised beds (known as Camas Africanas) for up to a month. This coffee is carefully handpicked and processed at their mill bordered by virgin forest and their water source, river La Llorona. The farm works closely with local charity Casa Esperanza Panama who provides opportunities for children and teenagers by providing access to health, nutrition and training services as well as teachers for schools. In turn the goal is to empower the children to educate their families and give them the skills to gain meaningful employment in the future to support their family. Finca San Teresa supports this charity by hiring teachers for the children of the farm. In addition to this we work with the local hospital in Volcan, ensuring regular medical visits and providing health education for the staff. They are also in the process of converting as much of the farm as possible to solar power. Their staff have also formed their own football team that is regularly placed at the top of the local league!
