The gemstones are carefully cut into shape and electroplated with a thick layer (1 micron) of 18 carat gold and finished with e-coating to impede tarnishing. A thin silver layer is used to bond the gold to the gemstone surface. The delicate pyramid hoop earrings comprise 18 carat gold plated 925 sterling silver (recycled gold and silver).
