4-D Surprise

Appearance of the Statue of Liberty: You show an empty space on a raised base topped with a backdrop (a background panel) that you assemble in front of the audience. Then you place a box on it, the transparent walls of which allow you to see that it is absolutely empty. So: a visibly empty box circumscribes an empty, isolated and impenetrable space.Without any screen of any kind, without touching anything, you make a magic gesture and lift the box: emerging from nothing, the Statue of Liberty appears! Wacht! This is not an image of the statue, but a three-dimensional figurine, placed on a base exactly like the original (but smaller)! This extraordinary effect, created by Lubor Fiedler, is based on a brilliant principle used for the first time. You won't believe your eyes! Every prop can be left up for inspection and there is nothing to secretly remove or conceal at the end of the effect. Unbelievable but true! How does that work? The trick is based on a three-dimensional optical illusion, the secret of which only the great Fiedler knows. One wonders how he managed to hide something behind a completely transparent wall! The fact remains that the statue has been there for a long time, even though no one has noticed its presence. The illusion is perfect. We look everywhere, but we see nothing. Yet the next moment the Statue of Liberty will appear...Of course the experiment can be done with any other object of similar size.
