Armissan is a French commune located in the Aude department, in the Occitanie region, in the south of France. It is located about 10 km from the city of Narbonne and close to the Mediterranean Sea.The commune of Armissan is made up of several hamlets and villages, such as La Prade, Le Petit Roubia, Le Grand Roubia, La Plaine and Le Mas. It has about 2,000 inhabitants.The Armissan region is known for its wine production, particularly for its red and rosé wines. The vineyards of the commune are located on clay-limestone soils and are exposed to the Mediterranean sun. The winegrowers of Armissan produce wines under the "Corbières" appellation. Armissan is also known for its 12th century Romanesque church, dedicated to Saint-Étienne. This church was restored in the 19th century and now houses a collection of religious paintings and sculptures. The town also has several chapels, including the Saint-Victor chapel and the Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette chapel.Finally, Armissan also offers numerous hiking and cycling opportunities, with marked trails through the vineyards and surrounding scrubland. The proximity of the Mediterranean Sea also allows for water sports such as sailing and windsurfing.
