Armissan is a French commune located in the department of Aude, in the Occitanie region, in the south of France. It is located about 10 km from the city of Narbonne and near the Mediterranean Sea. The town of Armissan is made up of several hamlets and villages, such as Prade, Petit Roubia, Grand Roubia, Plaine and Mas. It has about 2,000 inhabitants. The Armissan region is known for its wine production, in particular for its red and rosé wines. The vineyards of the commune are located on clay-limestone soils and are exposed to the Mediterranean sun. The Armissan winegrowers notably produce wines under the "Corbières" appellation. Armissan is also known for its 12th century Romanesque church, dedicated to Saint-Étienne. This church was restored in the 19th century and now houses a collection of religious paintings and sculptures. The town also has several chapels, including the Saint-Victor chapel and the Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette chapel. Finally, Armissan also offers many opportunities for hiking and cycling, with marked trails in the vineyards and surrounding scrubland. The proximity to the Mediterranean Sea also makes it possible to practice water sports such as sailing and windsurfing.
