Who Run the World? Girls! This illustration by Lotza pays homage to Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to compete in a Formula 1 Grand-Prix in 1958. In a time when women were rarely allowed into motorsport, she managed to break down barriers and step into the male-dominated world of F1. De Filippis began his career as a touring car driver in Italy, before receiving a surprise invitation from the Maserati team to compete in the Monaco Grand Prix. Despite a slow qualifying time, she managed to qualify for the race and finished in a creditable 10th place. Her F1 career was short, but she paved the way for many other female drivers to follow in her footsteps. This illustration by Lotza is a tribute to this pioneer and an inspiration for all women looking to break into male-dominated fields. Girl Power!
