In this original work by Lotza, we leave for Biarritz in the Basque Country to swim at the Grande Plage. Reputed to be the main beach in Biarritz, the Grande Plage de Biarritz was called at the beginning of the 19th century "la côte des Fous", because therapeutic baths were practiced there to restore reason to the insane. The turning point came in 1854, when the town became the holiday residence of Napoleon III and his wife Eugénie. You will notice that the Villa Eugénie, located at the bottom of the illustration, was built by Napoleon III for his wife Eugénie. The building was constructed in the shape of the letter E which we can see with a bit of height. Biarritz is a coastal town located in the south-west of France, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is located on the Basque coast, on the Spanish border, and is known for its sandy beaches, surf waves and lively atmosphere. Biarritz became a popular vacation destination in the 1800s when the French imperial family began vacationing there. Since then, it has become an elegant resort, with many luxury hotels, casinos, restaurants and shops. The city is also known for its Belle Époque architecture, with many buildings constructed in this style. Biarritz is located in the Bay of Biscay, on the Atlantic coast of France. The city has a rich history, having been a favored destination for European royalty and aristocrats in the 19th century. Today it is still a popular destination for tourists, offering a range of activities such as surfing, golf and learning about local Basque culture. Biarritz is also famous for its outdoor activities, including surfing, golf, tennis and hiking. There are famous surf beaches such as the Grande Plage and the Côte des Basques, as well as natural parks such as the Pyrenees Atlantiques National Park. The city is also a transit point for travelers to Spain, as it is close to the Spanish border.
