It is a thin, colorless and transparent film that is neither particularly plastic nor elastic and can only be stretched to a small extent. However, cellophane is a plastic that can be made entirely from renewable rather than fossil raw materials. Cellophane is impermeable to liquid soaps but allows water vapor to pass through. Appropriate packaging therefore prevents condensation from forming inside. Pure cellophane can be composted, disposed of with waste paper or burned.
