Pyrenean Rhododendron Honey

Offer your customers a rare and delicate honey. In fact, a large part of French production is intended for export. Mountain rhododendron honey, also called green rhododendron, comes from one of more than 500 species of Rhododendrons, particularly widespread in France in the mountainous regions of the Pyrenees. This evergreen shrub only grows at altitudes above 2,500 meters and can reach a height of one meter. Although relatively rare, it remains present in certain protected areas such as the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park or the Pyrénées-Orientales. To collect pollen from alpine flowers, bees take advantage of ascending currents. The harvest of this wild honey takes place mainly during the summer, from the end of July to the beginning of September, a period when the flowers generally begin to bloom from the month of June. Highly attractive to bees thanks to their abundant nectar, these flowers contribute to the production of a clear honey, nicknamed “mountain acacia”, renowned for its light, subtle and delicate fragrance, as well as for its sweet, floral and slightly woody flavor. This honey is particularly suitable for sweetening both cold and hot drinks. Rhododendron honey is known for its many health benefits. In particular, it has antioxidant properties that help fight free radicals, which potentially helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Furthermore, its anti-inflammatory effects have benefits for joint comfort. •Appearance: The color of rhododendron honey is rather light. • Nose: The aroma is light, subtle, and delicate. •On the palate: The flavor is very sweet, floral, slightly woody on the aftertaste.
