How does the level of Sulfites in Chlorella differ from Spirulina? The concentrations of sulfur dioxide in Chlorella and Spirulina vary due to their different cellular structures, metabolic and growth properties. Chlorella is a unicellular organism while Spirulina is a multicellular organism. Therefore, the amount of sulfur required for the growth of each of these microalgae is different, resulting in different levels of sulfite locked up in the cells.
